Droop-E - “Rossi Wine (Free My Mind)” feat. Kendrick Lamar

So, it’d be better if Droop-E’s verse wasn’t so literal and explanatory with the track’s imagery, but the slowed piano run suits his cadence well, and the whole thing works on an aesthetic level.

I also like how this is kind of an anti-ode-to-syrup record.

Droop-E:  Don’t worry bout what’s in my cup / sippin’ on that purple stuff and I ain’t talkin’ syrup bruh

Kendrick:  In the middle of the war zone I be on / sippin on a big bottle of that burgundy motherfuck your styrofoam

And they manage to work in that screwed sample of 40 Water (I think?) to further the point.

More Droop-E and Kendrick, please.

Hungry & Humble from the eldest Stevens progeny coming at some point.

“literal and explanatory” is a big part of why I wish he would stick to producin’, along with Lee Majors, Young L, Spaceghostpurrp, Beautiful Lou etc.

I wanna blame it on the internet, except I’m pretty sure that how the internet allows them to do this is the same “how” that people always hold up as why the internet is healthy for music so I won’t. It was nice when no one cared about those really well produced Timbo & Magoo albums though.
